RIP Ian Curtis

Ian Curtis RIP

1956- 1980

Today the 30th anniversary of Curtis' death it is natural to be thinking about the huge creative influence Curtis and Joy Division have had on the music world. It is surely also high time that Macclesfield thinks about celebrating it's extraordinary son. A plaque at 77 Barton Street at the
very least, a statue?

Something for the weekend

The loop is so excited. Jazz, yes live JAZZ in a jazz starved town. The Steve Darlington Quartet are playing at the newly run and revamped Jolly Sailor on Sunderland St. Lets hope its the first of a regular slot for them in this really inviting pub.

Leek festival is in full swing. So to help you limber up for next months Barnaby festival in Macc why not pop along and have a look?

The loop will be heading to the annual Sculpture Trail at One House Nursery over the weekend, to enjoy work by twenty odd sculptors displayed in 7 acres of woodland meadows with glorious far reaching views. Tea and cake too.

Workshops for a samba drum band commence on Sunday. Drums are provided and there is a bar so the whole thing has a social feel to it as well as getting down to some serious samba.

As ever we will be heading to Cloverbank Farmers market to stockpile serious foodie stuff but also hope to have a go with Di Stone who has a stall for her handmade felt and is running a workshop on Introduction to Felting – this is free.
The NCO play the Heritage Centre on Saturday night with Martin Roscoe playing Beethoven and there is an Irish Jam Session at The |Hollins on Friday night.

Adult fun

The loop
loves Macc library. Admittedly the newish self serve system demands a degree of determined concentration we rarely posses, but that said, it is a brilliant resource with extremely helpful and friendly staff.
Its not just about books there are great DVDs to borrow, and as part of their adult learners week they are getting extra active.

On Saturday 15 May try Beginners Yoga at 10-11am. Wear loose clothing.

Also on Saturday 15 May, try Egyptian Dancing 11am-12 noon and 12.-1pm. Wear loose clothing.

Do you struggle to get the most out of your digital camera? Then go along to one of their Digital Photography workshops on Thursday 20 May a10.-11.am or 11.am-12 noon. These sessions are ideal if you want to learn about your camera and take great pictures. Take your camera and then think about getting a picture into the Barnaby festival New View Photography competition!

Magic of Motown

Direct from the USA. . . The Magic of Motown

Live on stage it’s the music of the Temptations, Diana Ross & The Supremes, Four Tops, Stevie Wonder, Jackson 5, Marvin Gaye, Lionel Richie, Martha Reeves, Isley Brothers and scores more.

“It’s the best live Motown tribute concert show on tour,” says producer Michael Taylor. “It’s not that it’s superbly-choreographed, it’s not the 36 million-selling hits, it’s not the dozens of dazzling costume changes featured that make it the UK’s busiest production on tour,” he adds.

“It’s the fact that it faithfully reproduces that elusive Detroit sound.”

“Sadly, many of the original Motown legends are either no longer with us or longer touring. The Magic of Motown is the nearest you’ll get to authentically capturing their incredible musical legacy in a live show.

“Our young cast is able to reflect the exuberance and excitement of these songs as they were originally performed.”
